The creation of a new school garden at Alec Reed Academy was the culmination of our RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023 'School Food Matters Garden'. Working with the charity School Food Matters, we set out on a mission - every part of our show garden would end up at a school.

Partnering with Alec Reed Academy we reimagined the design to create an immersive, edible and sensory garden at the school. Running workshops with the children and teachers allowed us to understand what needs the school had and how this new garden could work to improve the lives of children for generations to come. Beyond being an edible and joyful play space, the garden allows space for cross-curriculum learning and time spent in nature. A core part of the brief was for it to be wildlife friendly - with hedgehog habitats, deadwood for invertebrates and plants for pollinators, the school has witnessed a biodiversity boost.
