Built with the charity School Food Matters, the garden showcased the idea that nutritious food, a healthy planet and access to nature are basic rights. Direct quotes on food and climate are painted onto the central wall.
Tactile rammed earth walls, reflective water and light-catching grasses sit alongside climate-adapted planting, with calm texture cut through by bold ribbons of colour. Over 80% of the planting was edible, using edimentals - edible ornamental plants - and the public loved it. The garden won the People’s Choice Award and a Silver-Gilt medal, and was afterwards relocated and remade as two edible school gardens, at Alec Reed Academy in London and The Beacon Primary School in Liverpool.
